Japanese For You is an offline app for beginners learning Japanese (hiragana, katakana, first words, kanji and grammar, with review and writing practice), made by PATCELL SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED (“Patcell”). This policy describes what the app does with information. It applies to Japanese For You only; other Patcell apps have their own policies.
Summary
You learn without any account, and your progress is kept on your device. Patcell has no server for this app, does not sell personal information and does not use analytics or tracking of its own. The free app shows a few full-screen ads from Google AdMob between lessons; they are non-personalized and limited to content suitable for general audiences. An optional one-time purchase, Remove Ads, turns them off.
Data on your device
To work, the app saves on your device: which lessons you finished, your review cards and when each is due again, your daily minutes and streak, your settings (app language, romaji, furigana, sound, Sensei explanations, daily goal), whether you saw the welcome screens, counters used to space out ads (lessons finished, time of the last ad) and whether you bought Remove Ads. This information stays on your device; Patcell cannot access it. Uninstalling the app removes it. Your device's own backup service may keep or restore app data according to your Apple backup settings.
On-device features
Japanese words are read aloud with Apple's built-in voices on the device. Writing practice checks your strokes on the device. On devices with Apple Intelligence, the optional “Sensei” explanations are written by Apple's on-device model from the app's own lesson text; nothing you study or type is sent to Patcell or to Apple for this. The lessons themselves come with the app and work offline.
Advertising
The app uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) and Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). A full-screen ad may appear when you go back to Today after finishing a lesson or a review. Ads never appear at launch or during a lesson, there are no banners, none appear in your first few lessons, and ads are spaced several minutes and lessons apart. If no ad is available, the app continues normally. Development and test builds use Google's sample ads.
The app uses UMP only to learn whether a consent message is required where you are. Where it is (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), the app does not load or show any Google ads and does not show a consent message. Elsewhere, every ad request asks for non-personalized ads and is limited to a General (G) content rating. The app does not ask for Apple's tracking permission and does not use the IDFA. Google's SDK may still process network information such as IP address (and approximate location derived from it), app and device information, ad views and interactions, and diagnostic data to deliver and measure ads, maintain the service and prevent fraud. Promotions for other Patcell apps
Some of the ad breaks described above may show another game or app made by Patcell instead of a Google ad (labelled as an ad from Patcell, never more than once a day), and Settings may have a “More games” list. The app does not check which apps are installed; you can tap “I already have this game” to stop seeing one. Remove Ads turns these full-screen promotions off too. Tapping the store button opens that app's App Store page inside the app, with a campaign tag that names the promotion and contains no personal data.
Updated promotion list. The list of Patcell games and apps that can be promoted, with their pictures and short texts, may be downloaded from patcell.com without a new app version. This is a plain download of a public file: no account, identifier or personal data is sent. Like any web request, the website host (Cloudflare) receives the device's IP address to deliver the file; Patcell does not use it to identify anyone. The app also checks, on the device only, which of these games and apps are sold in your App Store country so it does not show one you cannot download; this is not sent anywhere. Without a connection the app keeps using the list it already has.
In-app purchase: Remove Ads
Japanese For You offers one optional, one-time purchase, Remove Ads (USD 0.99 price tier; the local price is shown by the App Store). It turns off full-screen ads and Patcell promotions; all lessons stay free either way. The payment is processed by the App Store (Apple) and checked with Apple's StoreKit on the device; Patcell never receives your payment details and uses no other purchase service. You can restore the purchase in Settings → Restore purchases with the same Apple ID, and redeem an Apple offer code in Settings → Redeem a code.
Permissions and children
The app does not request access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location, and it does not ask for your name or age. It has no chat, no account and no way to share what you write with other people.
Future versions
If a later version changes how data is processed (for example a new purchase or online feature), we will update this page, the date above and the App Store privacy disclosures before that version is released.

Google provides AdMob and UMP under its own terms and privacy policy. Apple processes payments and provides the on-device voices and Apple Intelligence under its own terms.
