Meet Numbors: a little neighbourhood with a big chain reaction

Every neighbour wants exactly the right company. Discover Patcell’s playful number puzzle for iPhone, iPad and Android, where one happy departure can change the whole block.

A new neighbour arrives. You find them a spot. Everyone seems settled.

Then someone leaves—and suddenly the whole block changes.

Welcome to Numbors, our number puzzle about finding just the right amount of company. Its little characters wear their wishes on their faces: one wants one neighbour, two wants two, and so on. Meet that wish exactly and they leave happy. Their departure can make someone else happy, setting off a chain you have been quietly planning—or one you are only beginning to notice.

We built Numbors around that small, surprising idea. A six-by-six block, a few expressive characters and a new arrival are enough to ask an interesting question: what will this neighbourhood look like after your move?

Make room for your next puzzle.

Numbors is available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, and Android on Google Play in supported regions. It is free to play with ads and an optional one-time Remove Ads purchase.

Every number is a wish

Numbors’ characters carry numbers from one to four. Count the occupied spaces directly above, below, left and right of a character. Diagonals do not count. When that total matches the number they wear, they leave happy.

A one needs a single neighbour. A four needs company on all four sides. A corner can only offer two neighbouring spaces, so where someone ends up matters as much as who arrives next.

There is no arithmetic worksheet to finish. You are reading relationships on the board: who needs company, who already has too much, and whose departure might change everything nearby. Digits, colours and small dots help make those relationships visible.

The best part happens after somebody leaves

Imagine a two surrounded by three neighbours. It has too much company. If one of those neighbours leaves, it may now have exactly what it wanted—and leave as well. That second departure changes the counts again.

This is the heart of Numbors. Clearing one character can start a cascade, opening spaces and transforming a crowded section of the board. A useful move may be the one that helps the neighbour beside your newcomer, or the one that prepares a chain for later.

The preview helps you explore that possibility before committing. You can see the newcomer’s path and who will leave, turning each placement into a chance to learn the board’s logic. Start by finding one happy neighbour. As the pattern becomes familiar, look for the next consequence.

An empty space is only useful if you can reach it

Newcomers enter through gates around the block. They walk in from the street until another character or the far wall stops them. You choose among the glowing reachable spots; you cannot simply place someone in any empty square.

That makes the edges part of the puzzle. A tempting move can block an entrance you will need later. An open route can be worth protecting even when a different move offers an immediate clear. As the neighbourhood fills, keeping access open becomes another way to think ahead.

Try asking two questions before an arrival: who will this help now, and where will the next newcomer be able to go? The answers do not always point to the same spot. That is where a tiny neighbourhood starts to feel full of possibilities.

A porch, a party and another chance to plan

Sometimes the newcomer in front of you does not fit your plan. The Porch lets you park one for later, creating a small but useful decision about timing.

Happy departures also fill the block-party meter. Spend it to Move someone out, making room when the block gets awkward. You still need to consider the neighbours left behind: removing a character changes the same relationships as any other departure.

These tools give you more ways to respond to a difficult board. Save a useful number, open a route, or make the space that lets your next idea work.

Your own best run—or today’s shared block

Classic is an endless score chase. Build a better run as you learn to balance arrivals, open gates and cascades. There is no numbered campaign to rush through; the board keeps asking you to adapt.

Daily Block brings the same newcomers to everyone on a given day. The sequence is shared, but your decisions are yours. It offers a fresh reason to return and a simple prompt for a conversation with a friend: what did you do with today’s arrivals?

Optional leaderboards use Game Center on Apple devices and Google Play Games on Android. You can also simply play for your own next best score.

A little block that fits your day

You can play offline without creating an account. Online features, advertisements and purchases need a connection. Numbors includes English text, a reduce-motion setting and switches for sound and haptics, alongside support for phones and tablets.

The game is free to play with advertising. An optional rewarded revive is available once per Classic run; Daily Block does not use revives. The one-time Remove Ads purchase removes advertising and makes that Classic revive free. Check your store for the current local price.

Who will you welcome next?

Numbors is another expression of how we approach games at Patcell: begin with an understandable rule, give it a distinctive visual character, and let players discover what that rule can do. Here, a handful of smiling numbers becomes a puzzle about space, timing and consequences.

Look at the next newcomer. Find a way in. Count the neighbours.

And before you make your move, imagine who might leave next.
