Updated: . Applies to eQuiz - Learn English version 2.0 and later on iPhone and iPad (App Store).
eQuiz - Learn English is a box of four English word games — Who Am I?, Word Wheel, Groups and Code Word — for all ages, made by PATCELL SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED (“Patcell”). This policy describes what the game does with information. It applies to eQuiz only; other Patcell apps have their own policies. Versions 1.x (2016) were built by a previous developer; version 2.0 is a complete remake, and this policy describes version 2.0 and later.
Summary
You can play eQuiz as a guest without any account; your progress is kept on your device. The game never asks for a name, photo or location. If you choose, and only if you are 13 or over, you can back up your total number of stars with Game Center or an eQuiz email account. Patcell does not sell personal information and does not use analytics or tracking of its own. The game shows ads through Google AdMob; those ads are non-personalized and limited to content suitable for all ages, as described below. An optional one-time purchase, Remove Ads, turns off full-screen ads and makes hints in Who Am I? and Code Word and the Continue offer free. Some ad breaks may show another game made by Patcell instead.
Data on your device
To work, the game saves on your device: the best stars for each puzzle in the four games, your total stars, the English Passport stamps and rank that follow from them, the words in your Word Book (the words you solved, plus any words added from Hangman for Kids as described below), your Word Wheel coins, the level and topic you picked last, which how-to-play cards you have seen, play statistics (puzzles played, puzzles solved, stars, play time), settings (sound effects, music, haptics, reduce motion, read aloud) and an unfinished puzzle so you can continue later. It also keeps a few technical values: counters that space out full-screen ads, whether Remove Ads is owned (so it works offline), the result of the age question (see below) and, if you use the email account, the account's email address, account ID and last sync times. This information stays on your device; Patcell cannot access it.
Settings → Clear data on this device deletes your progress, Word Book, statistics and settings on this device. Uninstalling the game removes all of it. Your device's own backup service may keep or restore app data according to your Apple backup settings.
Age question before Leaderboard and accounts
Playing never asks for an age. Before the optional sign-in features (the Game Center leaderboard and the email account) are shown — when you tap Leaderboard on Home or open Settings → Account & sync — the game asks a neutral year-of-birth question. These features are offered only to players aged 13 or over. Only the yes/no result is kept on the device: the year of birth is not stored or sent anywhere. Under 13, no sign-in service is started, the Leaderboard button is hidden, the answer cannot be changed in the app, and all progress stays on the device; the whole game remains free to play.
Optional total-stars backup
What is backed up: only one number, your total stars over all four games. Stars per puzzle, Passport stamps, Word Book words, coins, statistics and settings stay on your device and are never backed up. Copies are combined by keeping the higher total, so nothing is lost when you play on several devices.
Game Center (iPhone and iPad): if you are 13 or over and signed in to Game Center, the game submits your total stars to the eQuiz “Total Stars” leaderboard and reads your own best entry back to restore it on another device. Apple shows those scores with your Game Center nickname to other players according to your Game Center privacy settings. Game Center is provided by Apple under its own terms and privacy policy; Patcell's servers do not receive this data, and leaderboard entries are managed through your Apple account.
Email account (optional): if you create an eQuiz account with your email address and a password, Google Firebase Authentication (operated by Google for Patcell) stores your email address, a securely hashed password, an account ID, account creation and sign-in times, and processes your IP address for security and abuse prevention. Firebase sends the verification email and, if you ask for it, the password-reset email. After you verify your email address, your total stars are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (part of Google Firebase) as a single number linked to your account ID; nothing else is stored there. The game syncs it when you sign in, at most once a day when the app starts, after a puzzle that raised your total, when you tap Sync now and before you sign out. We use this data only to sign you in, keep your account secure and restore your total stars; it is never used for advertising. Sign-in is not needed to play.
Delete your account: in the app, open Settings → Account & sync → Delete account and confirm with your password. This deletes your email account and its stored total stars from Firebase immediately (Google may keep encrypted backups for a limited period under its own retention). Progress on your device stays until you clear it. Without the app, see eQuiz account and data deletion.
Advertising and privacy choices
The game uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) and Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). A full-screen ad may appear when you leave the result of a puzzle, never during play: none after your first 3 finished puzzles, then at most once every 2 puzzles and at least 3 minutes after the previous full-screen ad. No ad is shown when the app opens. You can choose to watch a rewarded ad for a hint in Who Am I? or Code Word (a letter placed for you), for extra coins in Word Wheel when you do not have enough for a letter, or to continue a lost puzzle once (+1 heart, try or mistake); this is always optional. If no ad is available, the game continues normally. Development and test builds use Google's sample ads.
Every ad request asks for non-personalized ads, is tagged for child-directed treatment and for users under the age of consent, and is limited to a General (G) content rating. The game does not ask for Apple's tracking permission and does not use the IDFA. Google's SDK may still process network information such as IP address (and approximate location derived from it), app and device information, ad views and interactions, and diagnostic data to deliver and measure ads, maintain the service and prevent fraud. Where Google's consent service requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), a consent message appears and Settings shows Privacy choices so you can change your choice at any time. If you tap an ad, the advertiser's service and policy apply. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Promotions for other Patcell games
Some of the ad breaks described above may show another game made by Patcell instead of a Google ad (labelled “Ad · From Patcell”, never more than once a day), and Settings may have a “More games” list. Only Patcell games rated for all ages are shown. No ad network is involved and nothing about the player is sent to Patcell or anyone else. The game does not check which apps are installed; a player can tap “I already have this game” to stop seeing a game. Remove Ads turns these full-screen promotions off too; the More games list stays available. Tapping the store button opens that game's App Store page inside the game, with a campaign tag that names the promotion and contains no personal data. Downloading a game follows the App Store's own account and family settings.
Updated promotion list. The list of Patcell games and apps that can be promoted, with their pictures and short texts, comes with the app and may be refreshed from patcell.com (about once a day, after the Home screen opens, never at launch, without a new app version). This is a plain download of a public file signed by Patcell: no account, identifier or personal data is sent. Like any web request, the website host (Cloudflare) receives the device’s IP address to deliver the file; Patcell does not use it to identify anyone. The game also checks, on the device only, which of these games and apps are sold in your App Store country so it does not show one you cannot download; this is not sent anywhere. Without a connection the game keeps using the list it already has. Promotions stay limited to Patcell’s own games and apps rated for all ages.
In-app purchase: Remove Ads
eQuiz offers one optional, one-time (non-consumable) purchase, Remove Ads (USD 0.99 price tier; the local price is shown by the App Store). Remove Ads turns off full-screen ads (Google ads and Patcell promotions) and makes hints in Who Am I? and Code Word and the Continue offer free. The payment is processed by the App Store (Apple); Patcell never receives your payment details. The app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) to verify and restore the purchase. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID generated by its SDK, the purchase history and receipt for this app, and basic device and app information. This information is used only for app functionality, to unlock and restore Remove Ads; it is not used for tracking or advertising. You can restore the purchase with Settings → Restore purchases, using the same Apple ID. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Read aloud
The game can read words and clues aloud with the English voice built into your iPhone or iPad (the system speech feature). The text is spoken on the device; the game does not send it or record anything, and it does not use the microphone. You can turn it off with Settings → Read aloud.
Words from Hangman for Kids
Hangman for Kids, another Patcell game, can open eQuiz with a link (equiz://from-hangman?themes=…&words=…) that carries only theme names and the common English words a player spelled there. eQuiz reads that link on the device, adds those words to the Word Book (marked as learned in Hangman) and may suggest a topic. The link contains no name, account or identifier, and nothing is sent anywhere. The two games do not share any other data.
Send feedback
Settings → Send feedback opens your own email app with a message to [email protected]. The prepared message names the app, its version, the platform and iOS version, the device type (iPhone or iPad), the app language and the screen size; it never includes your eQuiz account, its email address or any ID. You decide whether to send it. The game itself sends nothing.
Permissions and children
eQuiz is made for all ages and is not in the App Store Kids Category. It does not request access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location, and it does not ask for a name. An email address is collected only if a player aged 13 or over chooses to create the optional email account; the game is designed so that it can be fully enjoyed without one. A parent or guardian who believes a child created an account can delete it in the app or contact us to have it deleted.
Future versions
If a later version changes how data is processed (for example a new purchase or online feature), we will update this page, the date above and the App Store privacy disclosures before that version is released.
